The beautiful area
of Sahel lies on a coastal band from the city of Sousse to Sfax. It is characterized
by wide plains, rocky medium-height hills and depressions filled by sabkhas (salty
small lakes). But, its main particularity is that it has cleverly used its ground
to plant olive trees. The latter were precious resources in antique time since
they favoured the development and appearance in this area of many cities or villages
and well-equipped ports where Rome and Carthage used to stock up.
